This week's walk will be lead by Chuck Sieloff.
Cooley Landing Park is a little-known park along the Bay shoreline in East Palo Alto. There are some historical markers explaining the significance of the site, which was once a port providing access to the mid-Peninsula. There are also markers showing how the shoreline of the Bay has shifted over the years. The walking paths go through marshy wetlands and along the shore. (There should be lots of birds this time of year.)
To find the Park, take University Ave. into East Palo Alto, and turn right (if coming from 101) on Bay Road. Bay Road gets smaller and goes through an isolated industrial area, but eventually dead ends at a modern looking Education Center at the eastern end of the road. The Education Center is usually closed, but there is ample parking available at the location (go past the little parking lot on your left, all the way to the Education Center).
Village Walkers, a Village Members only group, take turns leading walks in local neighborhoods or areas of interest. A longer and shorter walk are usually planned for the route to accommodate differing needs. Contact Ralph Cahn via call or text at (650) 245-0280 to be added to the Walkers email list, to receive descriptions and directions for each week's walk.
