Hello Lite Hikers, we are hiking at Edgewood County Park on Tuesday, April 5 starting at 9:30AM. We are meeting at the Clarkia Trailhead on Canada Road, NOT at the Park HQ on Edgewood Road.
DIRECTIONS: Take 280 North and get off at Exit 29, Edgewood Road. At the intersection with Edgewood Road, turn LEFT and go about 1/2 mile to Canada Road. Turn left again and go about a mile, passing under 280 and look for parking on the right side of the road. You'll likely see cars already parked but there is usually plenty of parking. The Clarkia Trailhead is across the road.
THE HIKE: We'll start a gradual ascent on the Clarkia Trial and intersect with a loop that includes the Serpentine and Sunset Trails and return via the Clarkia Trial. The hike is 3.2 miles with an elevation change of about 400 feet. It should take us about 1.5-1.75 hours to complete. There is one gradual switchback downhill that is narrow and a bit rocky so hiking boots and trekking poles will help.
WILDFLOWERS: We should see lovely displays of wildflowers. This week, owl's clover, larkspur, poppies, Indian paintbrush, tidy tips, monkey flower and Fremont's star lily were on display.
There are no restrooms on this trail.
The hikers will meet on the first Tuesday of the month at 9:30am. Please arrive 5-10 minutes early. The hikes will take 1.5 to 2 hours to complete (3-4 miles), with hills to climb and paths that are uneven and unpaved. It will be moderately fast paced with no easy way to leave the group part-way through.
Make sure you bring water with you and have the appropriate equiment (i.e. sturdy shoes, sun protections, walking sticks if needed).
