September Vistas:
“What is Art History? What does it Teach Us?”
with Village Member Brigid Barton
Anybody seen the Andy Warhol exhibit at SFMoMA? What did you learn about us from the exhibit? Art History as a subject emerges in ancient times and comes into prominence in the Renaissance and Enlightenment. It can tell us a lot about the societies in which the work was created. We will talk about modern examples of works art historians analyze to discover social, economic, scientific, theoretical, and gender issues, among others, in different societal contexts. Think Andy Warhol!
Brigid Barton is a professor emerita from Santa Clara University who lives in Palo Alto. She teaches now in many different outreach programs--Stanford, Santa Clara University, The Jewish Community Center, and elsewhere. She and her husband are Village members and participants in Neighborhood Cluster 7.
